HLSDB February 2026 Diaper Distribution Day: Community, Dignity & 157 Families Served

At the Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank (HLSDB), every distribution day is more than just handing out supplies — it’s about restoring dignity, reducing stress, and supporting families navigating incredibly tight budgets.

In February 2026, we prepared 300 diaper kits for local families who had registered for assistance. On distribution day, 157 families were able to attend and receive essential care items for their children and households.

While we always hope every registered family can make it, transportation continues to be one of the biggest barriers facing the families we serve across Houston.

What We Distributed in February

Because of our donors, supporters, and volunteers, we were able to provide:

🧷 3,929 diapers

🧻 40,964 baby wipes

🍼 116 tins of infant formula

🍎 2,304 toddler snacks

🩸 930 period products

😷 775 face masks

Each number represents relief for a parent who has been stretching paychecks, choosing between bills, or worrying about how to get through the week.

Diapers alone can cost families $80–$120 per month, and they are not covered by SNAP or WIC benefits. Period products are also not covered by federal assistance programs. These gaps create impossible decisions for families already living paycheck to paycheck.

The Reality of Transportation Barriers

Although we prepared 300 kits, nearly half of the registered families were unable to attend.

For many households, transportation is not as simple as “just getting in the car.” Some families:

  • Do not own reliable vehicles

  • Share one vehicle among multiple working adults

  • Rely on limited public transportation routes

  • Cannot afford rideshare costs

  • Work hourly jobs without flexibility

When families cannot reach us, essential items remain on our shelves — and babies remain in need.

We are actively exploring additional distribution models, including community-hosted distribution days and partnerships across North and South Houston, so that all prepared kits can reach the families who requested them.

Access matters just as much as availability.

A Beautiful, Smooth Distribution Day

We also want to acknowledge something special about February’s event: the atmosphere.

The 157 families who attended were incredibly kind, patient, and gracious. There were no issues — just gratitude, calm conversation, and a shared sense of community support. These moments remind our team why we do this work.

When dignity is centered, everything feels different.

Why Diaper Banks Matter in Houston

Diaper need affects 1 in 2 U.S. families with young children. In Houston, rising rent, utilities, food costs, and fuel prices continue to stretch family budgets thinner each month.

When parents do not have enough diapers, they may:

  • Leave children in soiled diapers longer

  • Miss work because daycare requires disposable diapers

  • Experience increased stress and mental health strain

  • Turn to unsafe alternatives

By providing diapers, wipes, formula, and hygiene products, HLSDB helps families stay employed, keep children healthy, and reduce toxic stress inside the home.

Looking Ahead: March 31 Distribution Day

Our next Diaper Distribution Day will be March 31, and we are already preparing.

If you would like to:

  • Donate diapers, wipes, or formula

  • Sponsor a family kit

  • Volunteer at a distribution day

  • Host a diaper drive

  • Partner with us to expand access

We would love to connect with you.

Every box packed.

Every wipe counted.

Every kit prepared.

It all adds up to stability for Houston families.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, and supporter who made February possible. Together, we are building a stronger, more supported Houston — one family at a time.

With gratitude,

Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank 💛
